Certification checks

Six months before your certification date the JCST will check that

  • You are registered with the GMC.
  • You are registered with the General Dental Council (GDC) (Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) trainees only). Please refer to the specialty's Certification Guidelines for further details.
  • You have an active ISCP account.
  • You are enrolled with the Specialty Advisory Committee (SAC) in the relevant specialty.
  • You have satisfactory ARCPs that cover the entirety of your training until at least your penultimate year. There should be an ARCP outcome for each year of training with no gaps between assessments.
  • You have passed both sections of your specialty’s FRCS examination (or have the opportunity to do so before your expected certification date).
  • There are no Out of Programme (OOP) periods that have not been accounted for as this may affect or delay the certification process.
  • You have paid the trainee fee for the entirety of your training, up to your expected certification date (Trauma & Orthopaedic trainees only need to pay the fee from August 2010 onwards).

If there is information/documentation missing or periods in training not accounted for, we will contact you, your Deanery/LETB, and/or your Training Programme Director (TPD) to request clarification on any relevant issues before proceeding.

After your ARCP has been signed off by your TPD, Deanery/LETB and yourself the JCST will check that

  • Any documents/information requested by the JCST have been supplied, for example missing ARCPs.
  • Your JCST fee payments are up to date.
  • There is no gap, in dates covered, between your ARCP 6 and the previous ARCP.
  • That your SAC Liaison Member has added comments to your ARCP 6. Please note that if the comments do not support the award of your ARCP 6 then this will need to be addressed before we are able to recommend you to the GMC.

Once these checks have been satisfactorily completed, we will recommend you to the GMC for the award of the CCT or the CESR (CP) (as appropriate).
