Withdrawal of educational approval
Educational approval of a training slot may only be withdrawn by the PMETB.
Please refer to the PMETB document outlining their withdrawal of training recognition process.
If the visiting panel are of the opinion that one or more slots at a unit does not meet the criteria for recognition, the visit report will indicate the necessary conditions for approval to be given, as well as recommendations for improvement. These are likely to form the basis of an action plan to which the trust chief executive or clinical director must respond. If the recommendation or action plan cannot be implemented within an agreed time frame the PMETB can withdraw educational approval from one or more training slots.
The process provides the unit with the time needed to rectify any deficiencies (within an allotted time frame) rather than recommending an immediate withdrawal of recognition.
However, if, following an inspection, a programme director feels that a trainee is not receiving satisfactory training, the trainee can be relocated to another educationally approved, deanery funded slot within the training programmes, provided there is an appropriate vacancy.
