Quality Assurance and Inspections
The Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board (PMETB) has been responsible, since 30 September 2005, for the quality assurance of postgraduate medical education and training. An important element of this is hospital visiting.
As the regulatory body, the final decision of approval of posts and programmes, designed to lead to the award of a CCT, will be made by the PMETB. However, Postgraduate Deaneries and the Medical Royal Colleges will continue to have a vital role in the quality assurance of training. Under the new system, the PMETB are responsible for overall quality assurance. The Deaneries are responsible for quality management, with Colleges providing essential input. Finally, the local education providers have the task of quality control.
As part of our role in quality management, the JCST is developing its own quality assurance strategy. More information on this can be located at the appropriate ISCP webpage
