Trainee Fee - Message from JCST Chairman

17 October 2008

Dear Colleague

If you have already paid the trainee fee, many thanks and please ignore this notice.

I am writing to all surgical trainees appointed in or after August 2007 and using the new PMETB-approved surgical curricula to remind you that there is now an annual fee of £125, payable by the end of this month. The Surgical Royal Colleges have introduced this fee to cover all the costs incurred by the Joint Committee on Surgical Training (JCST) in enrolling trainees and monitoring their progress until they are ready for the award of the CCT (or CESR where applicable). These include the costs of maintaining and updating the Intercollegiate Surgical Curriculum Programme (ISCP) and the Orthopaedic Competence Assessment Programme (OCAP). We have had to introduce the fee because we no longer receive any external funding for this work. The Colleges will, however, continue to pay the most significant proportion of the costs, as has always been the case.

Full details about how to pay the fee, including frequently asked questions (FAQs), are available on the JCST website (www.jcst.org). Please ensure that you pay by 31 October. Continued access to the interactive elements of the curriculum web platform depends on this.

We are always happy to receive feedback on any aspects of any of the systems involved.

Many thanks in anticipation

Yours sincerely

Chris Munsch, Chairman, JCST
