Recognition of Previous Training (for trainees already in a training programme)
The Gold Guide specifies that trainees recruited to ST3 may have previous training* recognised in order to advance to a higher training level. If previous training took place in GMC-approved posts (i.e. SHO, SpR or LAT training), the individual is still on track to receive a CCT upon completion of training. However, if the previous training was not in GMC-approved posts (i.e. overseas clinical training or UK unapproved training), the trainee will be need to apply for a Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR).
*Please note that you should apply within the early stages of your appointment to have any previous approved training recognised.
Regional training committees should discuss the possibility of recognising previous training with the trainee. Once an agreement has been reached, the trainee and the Training Programme Director (TPD) should discuss a way forward with the Postgraduate Dean.
